How did the RIU Resorts and now the Seacrets Resorts chain get a foothold in Jamaica? There is no way in hell that these people got on the island with out the blessings of Butch Stewart or the Issa group. It does not make any sense to me.
Won't these two chains be in direct competition with Super Clubs, Sandals and the Couples resorts?

I know this is the place to come for the real story behind this deal.

Anyone know the story behind this?

My uneducated guess would be that they had more gov't bribe money BS or they were willing to spend more on bribes.

None of the above the Comrade Government of PJoke Patterson decided that they had no more use for Butch Stewart and it was time to break him so they invited other players.

They got in Jamaica without the blessing of the rulers of Jamaica because they did so by another of the rulers making lots of money.
They bought larger tracts of land by the ocean that has been farm lands, for centuries.

Lands they did not buy them as hoteliers. the bought them through third parties.
these are experienced corporations functioning with the assistance of the Spanish ambassadors.

The diplomats knew the runnings. and he directed the operations as much as he could.
Once they own the properties there is nothing the local rulers could do that money could not undo.
The local rulers tried, they really did, but the deeper pockets and cheaper loans win out in th end.
they are presently encouraging unionization of their properties of the new sommers
Although they work assiduously at keeping the unions out of their properties for years.

Ok, but why? Did he have a falling out with the government?
How about the Issa family?

It seems that Sandals and Super Clubs resorts have lost a step.
Grand Lido Resorts have benn cheapened down to the Breezes brand, and the rest of the Super Clubs resorts are in disrepair.
Sandals resorts have benn cheapened also, I stayed at Sandals Royal Carib, Montego Bay Jan.2009 and the food was horrible.
Any expensive items listed on the dinner menu at the restaurants were not available. Some breakfast food recycled into some dinner side dishes, and they wern't very clever in thier attempt to do so....it was the worst food at any resort that I've ever been to. It's obvious that there is a problem.

Couples resorts don't seem to be affected so far.

So, I suppose that the Jamaican drink of choice will be tequilia(tokillya) instead of rum and Red Stripe will be replaced by Corona, and the number one staple will soon be TACOS.....OH! THE HORROR OF IT ALL! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

Next thing you know the name will change to Jamexico.
It's gonna be just like Cancun.

They recently offer to exchange a fisherman's beach for jobs as tour guides..
The fishermen flatly refused it. adter they pay Dominican's to sabiotage the fishermen's traps. the fishermen caught them.
