I just read a post on anedda board dat seh immigration is now restricting foreignors to only 6 months stay in a years time....anybaddy know enyting bout dis?....I can't really see the point, since those visitors pay GCT on there purchases while there & maybe room tax if they stay in a resort.

Any thoughts on this?

Could the logic be that x-pats and long term &quot;visitors&quot; should get close to their local immigration officer?

I guess is to discourage employment by illegal alien. Why would any one need to stay more than 6mth, if they're not working?

shoulden dem have regularized dem status dung deh..a mean, if u a retire deh n build infrastructure , u should protect uself by mekking sure u status as a landed immigrant is kosher...dat is wat most free countries ask...mi a deal wid dat up a Canada as we speak....

so fi yaad a regularise dem immigrants, is about time...

All these new rules are changes that have taken place since Golding was elected.....you get different answers from different people in the same agency....not sure what the answers are anymore!

every administration in every country brings new rules....look how many Jcans facing around the world...tings hard everywhere and countries r looking to close loopholds that lose them taxation...plus Ja is under mandate by the USA wich dangles its aid n says u need to tighten u borders to stop all the trafficking dat goes on thru it...human, drugs, money etc...to do that u have to know who is using ur borders, one way r di odda

one of my uncle who lived in England for donkey years and retired to Jamaica but goes to England onec or twice a year for medical reason and to visit his family there was told that he can only stay in Jamaica for 90 days or else he will lose all his benefits.

This is what I heard from talking to someone down there today os that a lot of foreigeners who go to Jamaica under the guise of retiring there and owning homes there uses those said homes to get income and the government does not get a penny.

What they do is get their friends and friends of their friends and family to vacation at their house and collect from them privately and the government cannot get any tax from that cause the house is jus a home for the retired person(s) cause that house is not registered as a Guest House. This

people from Britain use it to bypass paying taxes in Britain...and to top it dem dont pay none a yaad eida...see whe is ongle 4000 people of the Jcan workforce dat is on di taxroll an di ones who r r out of the pay as u earn system ..so in essence di ongle people who paying taxes to di govament is di ones employed by said govament using di collected taxes as payroll...so u can see why we in di position we r...

if govament suppose to live by taxes collected, wellllllllllllll....the very people who bemoan the loss of Ja r themselves complicit in its decline on a level....

Foreignors who are only stay 6 months vs. 11 or 12 will only be making purchases attracting GCT tax for 6 months vs. 11 or 12 months....this is a loss for the govt., nah tru?

My papers are straight now, so I don't have to leave, but the whole logic makes no sense to me! , especially since the GCT is now at 17.5%!

the hoteliers have been having some concessions on said GCT so the contributions of visitors is negligible at best...plus if an individual who is pressed to be in Jamaica for longer than 6mths will do wat those who visit Canada do ...leave an come bak...a flight to Miami is relatively cheap so if a one can afford to 'stay' in Jamaica fi a year a one should be able to afford a ticket to Miami, the closest point of farrin land

at any rate times have changed and even the smallest country has to effect changes ..globalization has pitfalls as well as plusses...

as we seh in Ja, Jack Mandora , mi no chose none...
