A homosexual couple arrested in Malawi after getting engaged is to be charged with gross public indecency.
Malawi police say the gay men were arrested, because they committed an offence.
<span style="font-weight: bold">Homosexuality in Malawi is illegal and carries a maximum prison sentence of 14 years. </span>
According to the police, Tiwonge Chimbalanga and Steven Monjeza held a traditional engagement ceremony over the weekend.
It’s believed that the two men are the first gay couple in Malawi to do so.
<span style="font-weight: bold">They say the pair is being held in separate cells </span>in Blantyre until their case is heard on Monday.
