FROM THIS SECOND FORWARD, NOT A SINGLE CIGARETTE WILL BE LIT IN LOWE MENA.
NOT AFTER HOURS. NOT BEFORE 9. NOT DURING WEEKENDS. NEVER!
As you know, or will find out soon enough, we had a fire here last night. Somebody threw out a cigarette butt into a bin full of paper.
The entire office was clouded in smoke. And Civil Defense had to break down the door to put it out. Luckily, they got to it in time and there was no major damage.
Initially, they wanted to SHUT US DOWN until further notice. We were able to convince them otherwise. But, just think for a moment of what that could cost us. SHUT US DOWN. And UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
However, on Sunday, they will be back to share the results of their investigation (which I have already seen) – images taken in our office of cigarettes in coffee cups,
butts in multiple trash cans, on the floor, packs of Bensons, Marlboro’s, Dunhills randomly scattered around and so on. I have to say, the pictures make it look like we work out of a pub, not an advertising agency.
The building owner, who has already paid me a visit (with an I-told-you-so-smirk), will also return on Sunday, and impose a healthy fine on us - after MULTIPLE OFFICIAL WARNINGS, most of which he has in writing.
If that weren’t enough, TECOM has also been informed and are waiting to hit us with an even greater fine, also this coming Sunday. We have no idea what further surprises may come from this, but I hope it gives you a hint of what we will have to deal with and how serious this issue really is.
ENOUGH.
