nope not so, there are 2 groups.

there are "store front" fly by night preparers such as uncle jimbob who works from his house, ms. sue who has a storefront in the plaza and jimmy who lost his accounting license. anyone can sign the return as a "preparer".

"preparers who are certified" = accountants, enrolled agents and lawyers. all of these 3 are certified. Only 2 of these can represent you in a "tax court"


it is the first group of idiots that the IRS is going after, this way the customer has some sort of recourse, and someone who has a license is held accountable to some extent for any mistakes/fraud on a tax return.

disclaimer:just because someone signs the return and is a licensed preparer does not mean that they are liable for any damages caused by a faulty return, the taxpayer is still ultimately responsible.

any accountant, if he or she is licensed in the relevant state is already being regulated. no worries

hmmmnnn.. all dis time mi tink even the one wey a run business outta dem home have to be certified in siting fi do wid taxes.

My Tax preparer does this work on the side but he is a CPA by profession so mi neva too concern sey im noh ligit.

no not everyone is certified.

it is up to the consumer to make sure that whatever service he or she is looking for, to mek sure that the professional is accredited and licensed by his/her relevant association/agency.


yuh know, same like when yuh a look Dr yuh mek sure him licensed

You forget how this country run??
It is all about income for those who trained tax preparers. It is all about the money. Now those who use to get free training, will have to pay. and those who use to just use the online programs will have to pay.
