Casey Johnson, the heiress to the Johnson & Johnson empire and daughter of the owner of the New York Jets, has died, according to a family spokesman. Police confirmed the report.
Johnson, who was also the fiancée of reality star Tila Tequila, was found dead at her Los Angeles home on Monday morning, reports TMZ.com.
While the cause of death is not yet known, there have been reports that the 30-year-old socialite died of natural causes.
After a preliminary investigation, a police official revealed there were no signs of foul play. The results of toxicology tests could take six weeks.
Johnson was a well-known face on the celebrity scene, not only for her engagement to Tequila, but also for an interview she did with Vanity Fair in 2006 about her decision to turn down and invitation from high school classmate Paris Hilton to co-star on The Simple Life with her, claiming it was “the stupidest mistake of my life.”
On her Twitter page, Tequila wrote, “Everyone please pray 4 my Wifey Casey Johnson. She has passed away. Thank u for all ur love and support but I will be offline to be w family.”
But Tequila wasn’t incommunicado for long. Since that message, she has tweeted half a dozen more times, and one message suggested that Johnson was not dead: “I just got news that my fiance is not dead but currently in a coma!!! Omg please pray that she will make it! Hang in there my love please!!!”
In a statement released through a publicist, the Johnson family said it was “mourning its tragic loss, and asks for privacy during this very difficult time.”
Johnson leaves behind her three-year-old daughter, Ava, whom she adopted from Kazakhstan in 2007.
