you know theres a double standard in society, like the other day when i was downtown toronto and two black guys were handing out literature for black empowerment, and i got to thinking-if two skinheads were handing out white power literature they would be charged under the criminal code for hate crimes </div></div>
The only empowerment NEGRO's need is to Educate themselves and pull up their pants. Some NEGRO's don't even READ a book or newspaper. Ask them and they tell you "It's toooo Expensive". However they are wearing the most EXPENSIVE clothes, drive the most EXPENSIVE car on the block and live in rented house or public housing.

how is that the same as empowerment?
your point would only be valid if the blacks were a black hate group as the skinheads are a proven white hate group

Very good point, jah_yout, I was about to address that inconsistency myself. The Portuguese were neck and neck with the British in the "slave trade." Their language is basically the same as Spanish and so NEGRO meaning "BLACK" for them is correct. The British eventually adopted the Spanish word over their very own word "black" and thus began the usage of "negro" instead of "black" to describe us as a people.

The British "slavers" sold our foreparents to the Americans as "Negroes" and over time, they the Americans corrupted the word to several forms, eventually settling for "NI99ARS"... This word is an "American invention" and has been used very effectively to degrade and to de-humanize us; even to the extent that Congress decreed that we were 3/5ths human at a time in our history... It is noteworthy to mention that Europeans(Caucasions) happily call or refer to themselves as "Whites", at least in the English speaking world... We as "Blacks" should do no less...

no word in and of itself is offensive...it's the context which makes it so...obviously certain organizations like the united <span style="font-weight: bold">negro</span> college fund or the national association for the advancement of <span style="font-weight: bold">colored</span> people were named during a time when african people were being called "negro" and/or "colored"...
negro being the spanish word for black...

so ask yourself why those whites who were so (& apparently still are)eager to label us with names-- ask yourself why they never called themselves "<span style="font-weight: bold">blancos</span>" (spanish for white) or "<span style="font-weight: bold">colorless</span>" people...
no serious people allows others to name &/or define them...

they do it themselves
