What is the point of the US passport sticking people birth country? Does that make us less American? It that always the case? Does other country do the same when earn citizen and get their passport?

I have the country of birth listed as Jamaica in my Canadian passport. It could serve to single people out with this new nationality profiling that seems to be all the buzz now in airports.Comment

It is set by an international standard for all countries - name, date of birth, sex, and place of birth, as a means of confirming identity.
POB's can be omitted (or adjusted) upon written request -for those travelling through certain countries. (ie countries that experienced political splits such as Hong Kong, Taiwan etc)Comment
