A central Florida Wal-Mart greeter seen on video getting punched by a customer says he's been fired.

Ed Bauman told WESH TV his termination notice called the incident an act of ``gross misconduct.''

A Wal-Mart statement says Bauman violated company policy on how they treat customers, and his actions put other customers' safety in jeopardy.

The 69-year-old Bauman was working at the Palm Bay store on Dec. 26 when 23-year-old Skyler Lowery set off the alarm. Bauman asked to see Lowery's receipt. Lowery showed the receipt quickly and kept walking, and Bauman followed Lowery. Police say Lowery grabbed Bauman's clipboard and punched him in the head.

Lowery was charged with battery.

A phone message was left Saturday by the Associated Press for Bauman.

i figured it might be something like that. if him get training about not being confrontational with customers, mi didda wonder why him would put himself and (like him employer seh), potentially other customers at risk. suppose guy did draw gun on im?

mi glad fi see that the customer get charged with assault, still, but old man kinna helped cause the problem.

this is ridiculous. whether the guy showed him the receipt or not doesnt matter....the alarm was set off is the point.

I have had that happen to me, and showing the receipt doesnt resolve the issue. They still look thru your bag to check

a) you have nothing in there that you didnt steal
b) your purchase doesnt still have on any of those tags (usually the case) because they have to remove it before you walk out again.
c) the alarm contraption is malfunctioning (problem at The Bay once)

the guy didnt harass the much younger guy, so punching him is over the top and he should be charged with assault.

WalMart are ridiculous with the customer is always right B.S. For all they know this 23 yr old stole from them

Just so you know. They remove them from clothing, but other things they physically remain on them. They are suppose to de-activate the sensors. They even embed dem sensors inna food, meat, etc.

The company is right to fire him.
That act could have resulted in his death,if he was unfortunate enough to be knocked to the ground and hit his head in the wrong place.
He should always avoid confrontation. Walmart have security outside.
They also have video monitors,.
It is their job to observe that and take over from there.
they have video record of the customer's purchase.
They could ascertain that he paid.
all they do is to go back amd look on their video records.
He have no right to embarrass the customer.
That act has caused too many confrontation in Massachusetts. The document checker, does not force the customer if they refuse.
all happen is the video monitors examine his action from the cashiers video records.
And they can do it almost instantly, He should not be in a job like that.
since he can't keep his cool.

Most people can't see things from a management point of view. So you will the usual bas hers.

TIIIIIIME OUT!!!!!!!

Number one---you are in now way responsible EVEN if the Alarm bell whistles are you under ANY OBLIGATION to show your receipt.

there is a process and wal mart has undercover spotters, and a camera in the ceiling every 6 feet.

Any buisness must have 100% sight on you from the time you are supected and seen unlawfully taking an item to the time you EXIT. Alrms can go off and they cannot illegally search you nor are you under any obligation to prove you didnt pay for an item--the onus is on Wal Mart to prove you didnt pay for it

When that happens to me and the alarm goes off and they ask to see a receipt I keep walking and ignore them or tell them to go ask the cashier if i paid for the item.

THATS why Wal Mart uses retired people to be door checkers because most rational conscience people arent going to give there elder a hard time when they ask to see the receipt.

This time the guy got the shiiiiit slapped out of him by the wrong guy.
