The local authorities knew all along that the wharves are the primary sources, of weapons.

But they keep parroting the illogical idea that it is coming from Haiti.
Ther is very little movement done between Jamaican fishermen and Haiti.
And with the US control of Navassa Is, and their drug interdiction navy in the area, it is impossible for such traffic to go on without their recognizing and arresting a few. It is a bogeyman.
Ther is not guns for drugs program. Even if they get some idiot to parrot that they know of it.
It is a hoax, it does not exist.

The police are reporting that they have seized 12 high-powered firearms and more than 700 rounds of ammunition from the Adolph Levy Warehouse in Kingston.

<span style="font-weight: bold">Operation Kingfish spokesman Sergeant Jubert Llewellyn said the seizure was made yesterday during a joint effort by security personnel.

News of firearms shipment to Jamaica is no longer "news". What is ominous and alarming, is the scope and extent to which "importers" are willing to go in acquiring these weapons... Why would anyone or group require such high powered weaponry unless they have been planning to unleash a reign of terror on unsuspecting innocent folks or use them in combat against rivals. We are talking about military stuff here!!

What is most toubling is how they are able to smuggle such weapons as sniper rifles, telescopic lens(scopes) and so much ammo in just one shipment. "Lawd of his mercy"!; have there been similar shipments that have gotten through before this discovery? which was most likely a tip-off... Our Government as inept as they are, has to wake up and realize that Jamaica maybe drifting closer to serious "mayhem" and try to head it off...

this no look good at all dow, every day u listen, u a hear bout how many people dem a let go,

de taxes dem a go thru de roof

i mean its a global economic cruch yes, but poor ja, how de poor ppl dem a go manage???

The volume at which it is coming in so great that some will be caught by the law of averages.

The effect of the others are seen in the statistics.
If people are insecure they will try to arm themselves illegally.
Once they start doing so, the competitive streak take over. They keep trade up and trade up until the weapons they are dealing with is full blown assault rifles, complete with laser scope.
I personally think that every person have the right top protect their lives. irrespective of what it take to do so.

We spend a lot of money technology and skills on saving these people's lives when they are injuried.
They have as much of a right to preserve it from being taken by thugs.
Until the government respect that right,the illegal trade in guns will not be abated.
They will soon be doing live drop of weapons.
Then we will be in for another stage of growth.

No wonder I noticed all those anti harassment division of the island police dressed in pretty much full battle gear of a SWAT team, complete with what looked like the good old MP5's.

You are seeing they have the good old MP5s.
It does nothing about crime though.
since crime in Jamaica Is similar to gorilla warfare.
They chose where to do their crimes and as soon as the government move their forces in one area.
They Bury their guns and travel through the cordon and go to another location where they have their stash and do it all over again.
The government is against effective protection of the people. So the people will illegally arm themselves.
I don't blame them either.
If you are going to be shot, at least you should have a chance. to try and defend your self.

Instead of being shot like an animal, by criminals.

You know, I have been trying to stay away from this thread, but I guess I'll jump right in with an observation.

This newest piece of information is very familiar to me. I remember in 1980-81 when 600 people were gunned down in a matter of 3 months (x4=2400/year rate!). At that time there were so many news and rumors of gun shipments arriving by airplane, on the wharves, etc. This was a horrible time in Jamaica's history of which literally gave me nightmares while I lived in Kingston. The violence was rampant among all sectors of the economy and it was hard to tell which was political, criminal, or organized crime. A UWI friend of mine was in a "road block" and was dragged from her car with automatic rifles pointed at her head when the leader of this posse recognized her ... a fellow UWI graduate. One of our neighbors was gunned down in his driveway in front of wife and children because he did not want to sell his profitable business to a group of 'investors.'

I remember the rumor of this massive ground-to-air missile launcher that was said to be located in Warika Hills.

This was <span style="font-weight: bold">thirty</span> years ago.

Natral, I wish your statement was literally correct so we could all live in peace. But like with everything else, sarcasm has its place. OTH, you may be right when you speak in relative terms of "genteel tranquility" we now have, as opposed to future perceived "mayhem". Such MAYHEM is unthinkable in Jamaica...

I don't know if we should cheer too loudly about gun finds on the wharf. Maybe we have just denied a family the very right to life.

Think for a moment:

With Jamaica's murder figures at or near the top of the per capita murder totals for countries around the world, the police cleared up rate for murder at 28%. The State's inability to come to the aid of the citizens under siege, isn't there a glaring need for the law-abiding folks to find some way to protect him/herself from being slaughtered like wild hogs in their own neighbourhoods?

The point is who knows what arms shipment is destined for what purpose. Folks will find ways of arming themselves once the situation remain like the proverbial Wild Wild West.
