Guardrail theft plot uncovered

The Transport and Works Minister, Mike Henry has revealed that a plot has been uncovered to steal metal guard rails along Segment three of the North Coast Highway in St Mary.
The minister says already, a number of bolts on the guardrails in Ballards Valley and Martins have gone missing.
He said police investigations indicate that the removal of the bolts was to facilitate the theft of the heavy metal rails for sale to the scrap metal trade.
On January 3, the Port Maria police received reports that unscrupulous persons were observed disassembling the guardrails in Ballards Valley.
The police say they tried to accost the scrap metal thieves but they managed to escape.
The bolts have since been welded to the guardrails to help prevent their theft.
In the meantime, Mr Henry say a discontinuation of the scrap metal trade may ultimately be recommended to finally deal with the problem.
