Black (orange) Box neva did find so it still unsolved mystery. But they did publish a second update to the preliminary report.

The report specified three recommendations:

1. Replace the faulty pitot tubes (tube thru which air enters the instuments to tell how fast you going)
2. Retrain all pilots flying Airbus aircraft on the procedures when the instruments stop working
3. Change worldwide aircraft certification criteria to account for high altitude pitot tube icing.

So basically without specifying the cause we can deduce what happened. In the thunderstorm the pitot tubes iced up, instruments stopped working, pilots got disoriented and lost control.

Please help me understand what is the relationship between thuderstorm and <span style="font-style: italic">ice</span>? Isn't thunderstorm related to rain? Or is because di plane up soh high up cause it fi freeze? Eida way, mi doan understand di icing part

Thunderstorms go thru stages of development. They are most dangerous in the mature stage. Here's an encyclopedia description of the mature stage:

Once a storm enters its mature stage, it reaches a point known as a cap where the air can rise no further. The clouds then transform again into what are known as cumulonimbus incus clouds. <span style="font-weight: bold">As the water droplets that have formed in the clouds begin to combine with each other</span>, the clouds become heavier and the <span style="font-weight: bold">water begins to freeze into particles of ice</span>. These <span style="font-weight: bold">particles of ice become raindrops when they melt as they fall from the clouds</span>.</span>

What they don't speak about it supercooled droplets. In severe thunderstorms, the moisture rises as such a high rate that instead of turning into ice, it remains in liquid state while it's temperature drops below freezing.

Now commercial airplanes are equipped with anti-icing systems to prevent icing from occuring. But what the French investigators point out, the certification guidelines for airplanes only account icing conditions encountered close to the ground, and not at high altitudes and conditions that one finds near the top of thunderstorms. So it is possible that despite the anti icing system functioning properly, the system wasn't designed to cope with a large flooding of supercooled droplets that froze on contact.

Anyway if that happens and date feeding the flight instruments is lost, basically what the manual says is set the thrust (power) at x, pitch the nose to y, and try a ting until you find your way again. Why the pilots of that flight didn't keep the plane right side up will probably be a mystery unless they find the voice and flight data recorders that are sitting 6km below the waves in the miggle a de Atlantic.

Jah guide and protect those who lost their lives and their families . Ugh. I hate hearing about plane crashes. I fly at least twice a month...these stories are terribly unnerving.

That's why the crashed make the news, because everybody expects a 100% safety record, which is unrealistic.

Jah know this story gets worse and worse. I went to Ja October gone and there was really bad weather. We were flying into Kingston, and the pilot tried to land 3 times before deciding to circle for 45 minutes. He eventually said that the aircraft had 30 mi nutes of fuel remaining, and we may have to fly into Mo bay if he couldn't land us safely.

The first three landing attempts were very scary. Lights blinking, plane rocking side to side, noise, engines revving and the plane attempting to stabilize...

No man...I trust that he was experienced and had undergone successful landings in harsh weather conditions before ray ray ray, but that does nothing for my piece of mind and nerves. My flight immediately before that had to make an emergency landing due to faulty landing gear. Nothing is guaranteed, so with those odds already in place, I'd rather err on the side of caution - ALWAYS.

You no see whe mi seh? I fly at least 2 times a month...I've got over a million sky miles last year alone. I'm aware of the differences between a normal landing in rough weather, and 'blood-k-laat grab di chair back and kneel dung inna fi yu cratches dem and grab fi unnu ankles dem a crash wi a guh crash!' landing.
