I have heard this so many times.
It is more about people being honest.
Due to policy they program the whole society, black, white and otherwise to define people by their race.

The facade about tolerance thgat has been instituted since the sivil riughts laws, does very little to blunt it's effect.
So people have to get to the point where it doesn't matter,by themselves.
And when they do, they are usually so surprised, that they can't help admitting it.
When they do so in public, or in the presence of the person who is the object of that emotion, they are simply behing honest about race.
It is a step towards the unravelling of the racist programming that is the millstone around the neck of the country.
