For the third time, in as many months, three high profile businesses have had their property seized in Manchester by officers of the Inland Revenue Department.
Last Wednesday, the taxmen seized a motor vehicle said to be owned by Positive Traders for outstanding taxes dating back to 2004. The million dollar motor vehicle was seized in the Spur Tree area of the parish after it was intercepted by the police.
When the vehicle was first spotted in Mandeville by the tax officers, the driver sped off and headed towards St Elizabeth. However, his get away was short-lived.
The taxmen said Positive Traders owes the government several million dollars in back taxes.
Last month, another Mandeville car dealer who had collected millions of dollars from customers and failed to deliver the cars, was arrested by the police. He later found himself also facing the long arms of the taxman.
Several of his motor vehicles were seized in the Nashville area of Mandeville at the lot of another car dealer.
Prior to that, a very prominent Mandeville businessman, who operates in the Kingsland area of the town, did not come up with the approximately $13 million owed in taxes in time to prevent several of his high end trucks from being hauled away by the taxmen last month.
