Interesting...must say...NEVER in a conversation with anybody else, as always try to group conversations about race.

But must admit an incident about 2 years ago, someone in a public area almost went so far as to refer to me as s..t and I did shout the p...i word at the person directly with a fixed glare
Not the best situation that I was in...even complained to their seniors afterwards where I was informed they were reprimanded.

i think he got reprimanded from the gestapo around here that someone of the white ethnicity found it offensive and he got told to stop.

i used the term coolie all the while growing up but that was because even the indian ppl in my family referred to themselves as such.

it wasnt until I was much older did someone say that it was derogatory. It was never used in the capacity by myself or anyone else that i knew growing up. Just a term of reference like black, white, or even red-skinned for a light coloured black person.

when i was little little kids used to rhyme my name with Paki til one day I went home bawling to my mom asking her if I was Indian

The only way I learned that is was a degrogatory word was because of how other kids used it. Intent is key but some words are off limits to me and will never leave my mouth even in private.

this is what I mean as well. I always saw it as a term of endearment too. So I got confused when I was older b/c nuff ppl would bristle like I meant to say something offensive.
