gas explosion and fire erupted at a Connecticut power plant, resulting in what police described as "mass casualties," CBS Affiliate WFSB reports.
Two people were killed and as many as were 250 people injured, 4 critically, sources told WFSB.
The explosion occurred just before 11:30 a.m. at the Kleen Energy plant on River Road in Middletown.
Several ambulances and fire trucks responded to the explosion. Urban search and rescue is being dispatched.
The fire is reportedly now undeer control, and search teams are inside building where the main blast occurred to look for victims and/or trapped people.
Black smoke was visible for miles. Witnesses said the sound of the explosion could be heard miles away.
