Britain's top fashion designer Alexander McQueen was found hanged Thursday.
Celebrated designer to the stars McQueen, 40, was found dead at his luxury million pound flat in central London's exclusive Green Park area.
"An ambulance was called at 10 a.m. (GMT) today (Thursday). Alexander was found hanging inside," a source said.
McQueen was believed to have become depressed following the death of his beloved mum Joyce a week ago.
The designer, who was the son of a London cabbie, posted a string of worrying posts on his Twitter page revealing his state of mind.
On Feb. 7 he wrote, "sunday evening been a f***ing awful week but my friends have been great but now i have to some how pull myself together."
And on Feb. 3 he wrote, "I'm letting my followers know the my mother passed away yesterday if it she had not me nor would you RIPmumxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx."
He then followed it up with: "but life must go on."
On Thursday uniformed cops stood guard outside the multi-million pound six-story Georgian townhouse where he lived in a flat.
Detectives were carrying out door-to-door enquiries while police photographers entered the property.
An ambulance was called at 10 a.m. (GMT) and left shortly afterwards. McQueen's body was believed to still be in the flat as of 1 p.m. (GMT) Thursday.
On Feb. 9, he posted on Twitter wishing a friend Happy Birthday. At 7:07 a.m. GMT Tuesday he wrote: "im here with my girl annie tinkerbell wishing kerry the slag ,happy birthday in NY ,your 40 now girl time to slow it down we think."
But just hours later at 12.40 p.m. Tuesday he seemed to have spiraled again into anxiety, writing, "HELLS ANGLES (sic) & PROLIFIC DEAMONS (sic)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
McQueen was very close to his mum, genealogist Joyce, and took her death very badly.
The pair appeared together in a newspaper in 2004 in which Joyce interviewed McQueen.
In it she asked him, "What is your most terrifying fear?"
To which he replied, "Dying before you."
"Thank you, son," she said.
McQueen was known as the bad boy of fashion and once allegedly sewed the words "I am a ****" into the sleeve of a jacket destined for Prince Charles.
But as his stardom grew, he became designer of choice to a plethora of Hollywood stars, musicians and establishment figures.
McQueen, who was born into a large family in Stratford, east London, mixed in the most elite fashion circles.
He married documentary maker George Forsyth in a New Age ceremony on board a yacht off Ibiza, Spain, in 2000 with Kate Moss as bridesmaid.
He was awarded a CBE for services to fashion, and won British Designer of the Year four times.
McQueen was due to show off his latest collection at Paris Fashion Week next month.
