passengers -- including those traveling to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands -- no longer will be able to fly standby for free unless they are premium customers of the airline. Under a new policy announced Feb. 10, American will charge $50 for same-day changes to flight itineraries.

So, as of Feb. 22, you can still try to wrangle a seat on an earlier flight when making a connection, for example, but -- as with almost any "service" in the airline business these days, it will cost you. The policy applies to all American, American Eagle, and American Connection flights.

If foreign airlines were allowed to operate domestic service in the US, then all the US airlines would go out of business with their total disregard to customer service.

fram what me understand most of the airline industry except for the american market losing money and even at dat even they are not making that much money..in additionwhen the economy takes a downturn so does the airline industry..so it's not surprising dem looking for more ways to increase dem profit margin

Look at RyanAir cause they are the downward trendsetters.
They recently start charge ppl to use the toilet. And make an announcement at the gate before boarding to empty their bladders before flight as it costs the airline in extra fuel to carry the extra weight.

Ryanair is pressing ahead with what The Irish Times dubs its &quot;fee per wee&quot;. The carrier admitted that the idea of charging passengers to use the toilets was originally a publicity stunt, but serious thought is now being paid to the issue.

The £1/one euro charge would apply to flights of one hour or under. In its in-flight magazine, Dublin-based Ryanair says that it is working with Boeing to develop a coin-operated door release.

The airline also wants to &quot;change passenger behaviour&quot; by removing some toilets. The airline hopes to replace two or three of the toilets on its planes with up to six extra seats. The extra capacity will help reduce fares by up to 50 per cent, Ryanair claims.

10. Passengers (such as couples) who request seats together must pay a 50.00 fee. Otherwise you and yours will be seated wherever on the plane, nad no seat switching will be allowed.

11. If your baby cries on board there is a 50.00 noise ordinace fee.

12. You have to pay 30.00 to watch movies on YOUR DVD player
