It not impossible to sell a business and retain rights to the name.
The sale can be negotiated to to specify that the buyer maintain conditions.....doesn't mean the agreement will be kept, especially when there us no legally binding tool to do so.
As for your future travel arrangements I would be talking to Air Jamaica now on that were I in that position.

The voices on the other end of the phone (AJ) just say that flights are scheduled as planned... yeah right, they are not letting on to anything.

If the agreementis not kept, there will be a requirement that the name must be returned to the original seller.

that would mean that Jamaica would regain the ownership of the name.
Realize that Jamaic awill still own about 10% of the shares in it .

Gen, Wow! your amused by the AJ demise and those Americans that have supported AJ for years getting screwed?
I've booked AJ flights for twenty years, and yes I did have a choice, AJ was not the only game in town.
Jamaica and AJ have always been my choice of carrier and vacation destination. That is how I came upon this site and have always held a deep respect for Jamaica and the Jamaican people that I've met and communicated with..... All the other BS aside... You are a moderator?.... If I've misread your response excuse me.

how is a sentence by sentence analysis of the merger and/or subsequent acquisition, sale or liquidation of AJ going to help you get there on the 4th or whenever ?

You are behaving as if Americans are the only customers who currently have tickets for future travel with the airline

If they are indeed honoring tickets, then what seems to be the problem ? just call again prior to departure and get yuhself to the airport \0/

Evidently you are not keeping up with current affairs.

Anyway, hope this helps clarify some of the confusion.

I called AJ to get a direct answer as to JFK/PHL/YYZ/FLL and BWI fate after 3/31.
This was the response, which I received within 30 minutes.

Dear Jeanette, thank you for your email.
I have just sought clarification from Mr. Nobles prior to his going into a meeting.
He confirms that "Yes" the routes JFK/PHL/YYZ/FLL and BWI will continue after March 31, 2010 by CAL once the sale takes place.

There will be a smooth transition in that the only thing that will occur or be affected will be the name change.
All tickets will be honoured by CAL at the time of their take-over.

If the sale does not occur, the GOJ will decide on the next step and during that time Air Jamaica will continue to operate those routes until its fate has been decided by the GOJ. I hope this helps.
