To think of it in legal terms, Does Jamaica has an Extradition Treaty with Cuba? That being said, if the answer is No, and she is married to a Cuban citizen, has favourable standing with the Regime, she may be calling Cuba her permanent home. Oth, she may come back voluntarily to face charges hoping to be lucky, and try to live in her homeland. Which will it be?

LOL don't know why we are dancing around this issue.
This good Comrade fool up her trusting Jamaicans, stole their loot. Got convicted and ran away in an effort to avoid other charges.

she has gone to Cuba which has served as hideout for Comrade Criminals and have even trained some of them over the years.

I hope she don't repay the Cubans by plotting to overthrow the Government like Bernard Coard's wife did in Grenada.

You are right I learned over the years that Cuban Government is no fool, they take their country and security seriously.
Even when they were suppose to be on good terms with the Soviets when Soviets era technicians came to live and work in Cuba they were basically watched and they could never really integrate in Cuban Society.
They were openly welcomed but privately the did not feel the friendly arm around their shoulders.
So I am pretty sure as tainted as Mrs. Cardenas is she might find herself way away from Havana.

TG, I was in the early stages of primary school at the time of the 1980 election, but I remember looking at a spread in the Gleaner that my mother had on which the names and photos of famous fugitives were printed. The two prominent ones as I remember - and because I always heard family members talk about them - were George Flash and Anthony Brown who had reportedly fled to Cuba. I did a google search of the two and came up with this story below. And for the comrades on this board, please, I'm not drawing a correlation between the charges against those two men, and those brought against Mrs Haughton-Cardenas, except that in both cases, the accused fled to Cuba.

THE JUNE 27 murder of Jamaica Urban Transit Company chairman Douglas Chambers revived memories of Edward 'Ted' O'Gilvie, a high-ranking civil servant who suffered a similar fate 31 years ago.

O'Gilvie, the hard-nosed permanent secretary in the Ministry of Construction, was murdered by gunmen at the gate of his Havendale home on June 16, 1977. <span style="font-weight: bold">At the time, the 47-year-old O'Gilvie was conducting an audit of a housing project in the east Kingston community of McGregor Gully.
</span>
Four persons were arrested for O'Gilvie's death, including Weston Dyer, superintendent for special works at the construction ministry. Three men, <span style="font-weight: bold">George Flash, Anthony Brown</span> and Phillip Burrell were also implicated.

Dyer, of Independence City in Portmore, St Catherine, was convicted in the Home Circuit Court on June 4, 1980. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for soliciting to murder, and given another six years for conspiring to murder.

Winston Reid, a man who said he was Dyer's 'finance minister', testified during the trial that he heard Dyer telling persons on numerous occasions that <span style="font-weight: bold">O'Gilvie "mus' dead" because he was stopping the flow of money to People's National Party (PNP) cronies in McGregor Gully. His investigation into the McGregor Gully project unearthed mass corruption.</span>

During Dyer's trial, it was revealed that $1.9 million was spent on the project in just six weeks. Over $872,000 had been paid out to persons who did no work on the site, including teenagers.

One witness said during his involvement with Dyer and the project, he was paid $150,000.

Reid testified that in 1977 during a visit to Dyer's home, he overheard one of two men telling Dyer that "is all right boss, we'll tek care of the job".

<span style="font-weight: bold">George Flash and Tony Brown were charged for O'Gilvie's murder, but fled Jamaica, reportedly for Cuba, in 1980. They returned in 1993 when all charges against them were dropped.

Charges against Phillip Burrell, who went on to become a top record producer, were dropped in December 1978.

<span style="font-weight: bold">convicted</span> usually refers to criminal matters(am i right in assuming now that you did not intend that meaning?) ....the guilt referred to in the story refers to a disciplinary hearing...pardon my misinterpretation of your comment

Well she went before a Jury of her peers and they made a finding of fact....She did teef her client money.
Chances are she would have been convicted had she up for trial in the criminal court.
