<span style="font-size: 11pt">A mother who starved her seven-year-old daughter to death has been cleared of her murder and has had her plea of guilty to manslaughter accepted.
Prosecutors accepted Angela Gordon's defence of diminished responsibility over the death of Khyra Ishaq.</span>

Gordon's partner Junaid Abuhamza had a manslaughter plea accepted following a report on his mental health.

Khyra was found severely emaciated at a house in Handsworth, Birmingham, in 2008 and died in hospital.

I think because it is unusual to hear of a black mother doing that? stereotype (as I have read on this board) is that black mothers are nurturing etc etc

Sadly, right now I can think of 4 well known cases - just in the NY/NJ area alone - of black women who've caused their child's death, by starvation.

Because, as far as I'm concerned, you don't usually hear of black people involved in stuff like this.

You have to be really <span style="font-weight: bold">sick in the head </span>to starve a helpless child, so I'd be surprised to find that infanticide is more prevalent in one culture than another. Mental health - or lack of in this case - doesn't respect any color line.

JMO, I don't think black mothers are more nurturing than others. Besides, nurturing for one child, is smothering to a next child, and neglect for still another.

Unfortunately it's not unheard of in my city.

not long ago, a little girl was beaten and then left in the garage? (i think) while the other members of the family went on a trip.

when they came back she was dead.

There's the case of the little boy who was starved, beaten and scalded by his stepmother while his father did nothing. They were all Jamaicans, it happened in Canada.

The child's mother, thinking she was doing the best for the child, sent him up to live with his father. The father's woman tortured the child til he died. If I remember correctly, he was about 7-8 and weighed no more than a toddler at this time of death..
