'Glamour Troy' killed - Popular MoBay 'dollars man' gunned down
Several residents across Montego Bay, St James, expressed shock last night as news spread that a popular unlicensed money trader had been murdered at his home in Albion.
Dead is Troy Austin popularly called 'Glamour Troy' a 41-year-old ex-soldier, turned 'dollars man' who also worked as a security guard at a popular night club along Gloucester Avenue. He was also popular in the football and entertainment arena
His death was one of three recorded on the St James police blotters last night.
Two other males were shot dead at Wagon Wheel, Lilliput, shortly after Austin was murdered. Two other persons were also hospitalised.
Glamour Troy, exchanged local and foreign currency for years at the corner of Strand and Church Streets, along with a group of other informal money traders.
Police say that at about 8:10 p.m., Austin was inside his house when three armed men kicked off his door and shot him repeatedly. Persons have informed THE STAR that he was shot at least eight times. The men escaped.
Criminal elements had attempted taking his life a few years ago when they attacked and shot him multiple times. He had also been accused in the past by several persons of not being fair in his money trading business. "His death could be as a result of anything because he has had issues with a number of persons on several fronts," an officer told THE STAR.
In the second incident, sometime after 10 p.m., a group of men had gathered in the Lilliput community when men drove up in a white car, alighted and opened fire at the group. Four persons were shot in the incident.
No motive has yet been established for either of the killings.
