Last year Newton raced in Yukon Quest, which is a qualifier for Iditarod. Newton came in 13th of 29 finishers. Newton also won the Yukon Quest award for the care he gave to his dogs during that race.

Is no old ting blu...is a brand new ting, first time ever.

Last I looked at the GPS tracker Newton was in 23rd place. He is holding his own, he had taken a few hours rest. It's far too early for race standings to matter though, this time next week it will become more important!

OK, I'm off to check on the progress of the race, but will be posting as it goes in the Sports section thread!

It was -20F this morning and today's part of the race is over the highest terrain in all of Alaska.

Just finishing this dangerous and challenging trek through some of the toughest terrain on the planet is winning. 14 of 71 mushers have scratched so far and Newton is in solid 47th place. As a rookie to Iditarod this is an outstanding accomplishment!

Newton has less than 40 miles to go. You can see his number 14 which I have circled from my GPS tracking. The last green flag is Nome and the finish line!




I didn't want anyone to miss this awesome accomplishment! The rest of the thread is in Sports section with lots of stories and pics...

There may be online live coverage and if there is, I'll come post a link. I'll be glued to the screen for sure! We had quite a nice party going on one coverage site when Newtons mentor and host came in and won his 4th straight Iditarod on Tuesday!
