I read your interchange...i m not a US resident but i have a periferal interest in steel products......Companies in China, Russia, Argentina/Mexico, provided Generic specialised steel products cheaper than US.....While Japan provides cheaper high spec steel products than the US....in fact there are no US companies that can provide these high chrome steel products.....how I know? remember the Tsunami /Fugishima ? There was a shortage of Chome steel..

If a US company in Mexico uses Mexican steel will there be a tariff but if they use US steel in Mexico no tariff.. what if Chinese or Russian steel? what if the company is not a US company but using US steel instead of a competitors nation steel....?

I know this already...but the Republican talking heads and Herr Trump especially do not make delineations/distinctions and/or consider the minutiae. They just rail against all imports and all Trade Agreements (as I have noted Herr Trump himself is the loudest trumpeter), yet they have manage to elect one of the single biggest beneficiary of Trade Agreements and cheap imports.

I've seen some of the so called high tech steel by the Japanese. Grumman fire engines were rust buckets by this defective junk. Toyota was buying back 1990's vehicles because of extreme rust problems and now they are recalling some of their newer products because of same problem.

Time for the US to get some these markets back. Problem is that Capitalism follows cheap labor. It will be a challenge to accomplish.

By the way the last time I drove a yanki made car was in Kazakhstan, it was about 10 years ago it was one of the yanki marquee brands. It was a peice of under powered badly made junk...
