So everyone's prom gets cancelled???

What do you think? A gay female student wanted to take her female girlfriend to the prom as her date, so rather than allow it the school district cancelled the prom for everyone. What do you think?

(side note I didn't get to have a prom either, the school district cancelled all proms to prevent racial mixing as I was in the first group of students to integrate public schools here. So no proms for the class of 1969 (yeah I know it seems so long ago), The all black schools had theirs anyway)

My class had a prom that i never went to, and never missed...nor felt scarred in any way my missing it.

but to answer your question....it is STUPID to cancel the prom, merely because two girls want to go together. Girls dance together all the time...who cares what their sexual orientation is. If they're not ashamed....whats the rub?

STUPID...and unfair to ALL the students. Further, it sets the gay couple up to be ostracized, as if they caused the cancelation.

seems to me that the school board was responding to the "movement" wanting to use this event to make a statement....do students normally have to vet their dates thru the board?

wow...it wouldn't be the 1st gay/bi couple attending prom...u mussi live inna backwoods...cause at mess happen in Fl all the time and been happening years now..

My lesbian student and her butch girl (she wore the tux), went to Mitchell high school's prom together with no prob. Memphis CIty schools has already experienced this one years ago

When I was working at Booker T. Washington high, one of our students who cross dresses came to the basketball game as a woman. Bought his ticket from the principal and walked right in. Once the principal discovered what had happened he kicked him out and suspended him from school the next day. A gay rights organization came in from out of town and picketed the school. This one made it all the way to Time magazine. LOL

One day one of my guy students who is gay, the police came after him. He had been involved in a credit card scheme thingy. They took him in the hallway to cuff him and he asked the officer to go in the classroom and get his purse from his desk.

Saw the story on the tele and thought it was much ado about nothing....I guess they canceled the prom because the girl took the matter outside and reported the schhol as being in violation [mi noh membah a whoo shi call, an mi noh care] and they [di school] wanted NOT to tango with them...so dem cancel di prom...how silly !!
