Re: Heart -Warming Story for a change- Spring breakers
I thank you for this. I've been on the plane with them time and time again, fresh faced young people going to do a good thing. I've been on the plane with them coming home, and the smile is ever bigger, but I can tell also, they just feel GOOD about what they have done, which is the real benefit of work like this.
That being said, as I look at these hopeful children's faces and their "schools", I guess I can safely say it this time without fear of being reported. Kids I have taught over the years SOME of them, should be horse whipped for squandering the opportunities they are given in our lovely schools here.

I am from the Kalil Gibran school of charity who described
"Charity without real sacrifice" a sin... The only act of charity I ever will applaud is the Moravians who sold them selves to liberate slaves in the Carribean... not some white dudes spending a week painting a school.. If they had sent the cash they spent on tickets and the cash they spent on materials to the school it would have been put to better use. The school could have hired a guy to work... That would have
Having come from an enviroment like the receipts of this ego driven drivel, I resent the implications.. I put this in line with Tarzan syndrome....

They worked hard for four days and played hard for four days. It was a win/win for them.
Now does this mean next break they will do similar service in Milwaukee?
I have no problem for these US students to help out Jamaica but would also like to see equal time of service in their home state too.If you don't fight for what you deserve, you deserve what you get.

Nothing done in the service of your fellow man is a waste. Even if your intentions are not totally pure, service itself is meant to change. Many young people engage in "public service" at first because it is "the thing to do", then find that the genuine feleling they get from it can have no price.
