Am I being too sensitive?

Please tell me if I'm being too sensitive about this. I recently watched "Why did I get Married too" and still in my mind feel uncomfortable about how they talked to Bahamas help staff and even when they initially met the Bahamian couple on the beach. I know the actress Tasha was supposed to be attitude-ridden but it was a general vibe I sensed towards the Bahamian hotel staff and people. As if they were looking down on them.

I know Tyler Perry said he was glad to do the movie in the Bahamas and how it should generate people to visit but my thing is that everyone already knew the Bahamas was a beautiful tourist destination. If you are going to do a movie showing Afro-Americans in particular in the Bahamas shouldn't you atleast respect the native people?

Anyone saw it and had the same opinion?

maybe Tyler wanted AfroAmerican to see how they behave outside of the US where they have been looked down upon fi centuries YET dem tek di chance to do dem own looking downupon wen dem tink dem in di driving seat...ie...tourist paying dem money fi dem trip


wen i came to the States in the 70s i found most to not appreciate being told they were Africans...they still had the Tarzan movie vision of Africa...matta of fact they didnt even know where Jamaica was, at my university in Atlanta...an asked me how mi so fairskin an come from deh...not to mention di 'if mi live in banana tree( dat one still puzzle me wen u tink of a banana plant) r in a cokenat tree...

said way people who live in di rich pawt of Jamaica tawk to dem helpers is di said way depicted as u seh in di movie...

I guess you are right. I hope some will realize that the attitude in the movie towards the Bahamian workers was shameful and either change or be careful not to behave that way. I mean some here complain that they feel West Indians, Africans etc come to the US and treat them a certain way but my thing is you can't be so sensitive about such things and then turn around and be disrespectful. It's a two way street!

I'm sure during and after watching the movie, there are many that will come away with the same vibes as well.

Tyler Perry is paid to make blk ppl look a way, he's never done anything for upliftment of blk ppl. If he did he'd be a nobody.
Get used to that, as long as he's funded by those ppl they control how de ting is made an put feem name pan it.

I can understand if you don't like his productions. But he has done a lot for blacks in his state and black people around the world. I am speaking donation wise, not referencing his productions

Jamaica is still &quot;benefiting&quot; from Stella getting her groove back how many years ago. And long before Stella went to Negril, Jamaica was a top tourist destination.

I'm sure Bahamas tourism will benefit from this movie.

ok sounds great. I thought the movie was really good but having Caribbean parents I guess I felt a certain way about how the Bahamian hotel help was being talked to.

Dahjah, you must have not seen this particular movie &quot;Why did I get Married 1 &amp; 2&quot; Both showed us as black positively and were pretty smart movies.

was the the benefit of Stella positive r negative...we know tourism dollas do not go to Jamaica, despite wat all would like to believe...

This is a very narrow viewpoint of Tyler. Not true that he doesn't do anything to &quot;uplift&quot; black. I can assure you he has done more to help the black community than you yourself have done in a decade

BTW - went to see the movie Sat and di bloody thing was sold out fi di whole DAY!

&quot;those people&quot; will only fund movies that people will go watch. From what i can tell...whole lot of people go watch them.
