The Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) is working closely with the Ministry of Labour to reduce the instance of undocumented persons inside Jamaica's borders.
According to Jennifer McDonald, Chief Executive Officer at PICA, the agency is seeking to deepen ties with the labour ministry to properly monitor persons to whom, work permits are issued.
Ms McDonald, who was addressing the RJR News Centre Editor's Forum on Thursday, noted that the move is part of PICA's overall border management process.
"<span style="font-weight: bold">Over stayers are now being recorded in our border management system,</span> so we have a duty to ensure that our borders are secure so that we don't have persons here illegitimately. Our remit is from an immigration purpose because someone could have a work permit but is still in breaching of immigration laws because they have not come to us to get an extension in their passport to recognize the duration of their work permit," she said.
