Kimmo Matthews
Wednesday, April 07, 2010
HAD it not been for an article in the Sunday Observer, Washington DC might have never known that its mayor, Adrian Fenty, was on a visit to Jamaica with his wife.
While Fenty was in Jamaica last week, a frantic search was underway by council members and journalists, who had been trying for days to locate him.
According to a Washington Post article Thursday, Fenty has come under harsh criticism for not disclosing his travel plans.
His whereabouts were only ascertained following a story written by staff reporter Kimmo Matthews in the March 28 edition of the Sunday Observer -- featuring the mayor and his wife.
In the story, the mayor expressed hope that both the US and Jamaican governments would be able to resolve the issue of the extradition of Tivoli Gardens strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke.
The Washington Post's website carried a link to the Sunday Observer. The Post article also stated that journalists wanted to contact the mayor for comment on a political development and a shooting incident on South Capitol Street in the US capital.
