the businesses he started in jamaica are still running and most of the people patronising them daily have no idea that he was behind them...

it is only fitting that his funeral was low-key,

yuh know, he really didnt shun the spotlight by choice... He was a wanted man.. America's Most Wanted.. He HAD to move below the radar. He change his name to Andrew Williams (or something like that) and tried to do his businesses without getting any attention. That was the obvious thing to do.
he closed up his rental business in Ochi because the herald had printed his face in a story.
he sold Cactus to Brian and Chris, because people were starting to recognize him in Portmore.He was an "American Gangster" not known to Jamaicans other than what the Americans told us. We all knew Jim Brown, but not many people outside of Tivoli knew Blake.

If he hated attention, then why that video (for example) trying to sell a movie that is more or less about him?
Seems that he infact love attention, but had no choice but to work behind the scenes while he was a wanted man.
As soon as he was released from US prison, seems he all but begged for attention..

yea who ever heard of a movie producer trying to get publicity for his movie...
i'm not making blake out to be some kind of saint...but there is a certain level of respect based on what he tried to do after running afoul of the law...
perhaps he was beyond redemption-- god alone will judge that, but compared to the gold-chain benz guys back in the heyday of the jamaican posse, if enough guys had thought like him, perhaps the balance of power could have been shifted a little bit toward the common man's hands in terms of business ownership & economic pooling...
most will probably condemn it & say it was ill-gotten gains-- even as they patronize the huge banks & insurance companies that made their wealth off the blood of our ancestors...

he was smart (DESPITE attending Georges ) .. that a given.
But Viv Blake isnt the only "Gangster" (that I know of) that keep a low profile.
Infact, Jamaica is rife with crime, notoris gangs in almost every nook and crany .. now try and name 10 leaders of some of Jamaican's current gangs...

Most people dont know who the leaders are.
Mi know of one of the most notorios and feared gunman from back in 70s and today when u go into the community, he simply sits on a concrete block crushing his weed. No god chains, no bling.
Its not in the interests of any "Gangster" to hog the spotlight. None.
and I really know of none that did and lived or not incarserated.
The ones wearing the bling are usually the "shottas" the hot headed "gunbags" whose lives usually end in a hail a bullets.

As for Producer seeking publicy for a movie, what Producer, what Movie??
He was selling a script, a screen play.
To my knowledge, no movie has been made, and we dont know that he would have been the producer.
While he was in GP he had met Tony Hendricks and asked him to write a screenplay for him. Tony Hendricks quoted him a high $$$$ figure, so he decided to read up as to how to write screen plays.
He was aleggedly still working on the screenplay when he died.
What I saw in the vid was a screenplay writer trying to sell a script about his life.. using a video as a pitch.
That dont spell "low keyed Gangster" .. well not to me anyhow.

Low keyed turn out at the large Cathedral on North St.
Someone blundered there. Why not at St. Anne`s church in west Kingston?
That`s where he got a Govt. scholarship to attend STGC after doing well in the common entrance exams.
One of my close if not the closest association with VB was when Fr. Quinlan the then headmaster invited us and about four other students for "six of the best".
Forgot what it was that caused that visit.

mostly sensationalism & entertainment...
it is not an accurate portrayal of the entire story
