indian descent people still answer to &quot;indian&quot; no matter if they are jamaican, guyanese, trini, etc...
they see it as their ancestry...
african descent people can learn something from them-
instead we deny our heritage &amp; choose to be called just a color...

i've never in my life said ALL jamaicans are of african descent...but mi nah tek back mi talk...

in jamaica we call an indian an indian...we call a chinese a chinese...we call a syrian a syrian;
yet the vast majority of people are of african descent but refuse to ever be called african...

a psycho ting yes...

some indians have darker skin than some africans...why not call them black?
why not call the chinese yellow?

black jamaicans did not drop out of the sky...they came from africa;

this refusal to recognize the roots has jamaica being run by racial minorities while the bulk of the people- those of african descent- are still belittled in their own (inherited from the arawaks with blood, sweat &amp; tears) country;

since all of us r jamaicans, then lets get rid of the adjectives for all or for none...

i think this is this way because in general, the majority doesn't need to define itself. the majority &quot;names&quot; the minorities that way to underscore their difference.

in other words, just because i might call a person with chinese features &quot;chinese&quot; - that does not mean that i'm giving respect to china at the expense of respect to africa.
