mi have all sort ah mix up an wen people aks mi what I am - mi always say Jamaican...

Some people (especially here in US) try to press mi an say - "Yes but what are you - you are mixed with something"

Mi say "mi ah Jamaican - as it says in our MOtto - Out of Many, One people"

To me that is the embodiment of what it means to be Jamaican - most Jamaicans if they do a check will see say dem mix wid supm - mi nuh tink no more full blooded nutten deh ah yawd...

Mi tink it easier fe call sumaddy Chinny, or red bway Chin jus fe identify dem - jus as yuh say "Ben foot Ida" or Teefin Naltie" (real people weh mi know BTW...

Most Jamaicans jus as quick fe call an Indian person Coolie as fe call dem Indian (and we know that to "real" Indians that is a derogatory term but in Jamaica mi nevav si muhbaddy tek offense to that term yet

Matta ah fack is not till mi come here mi learn de hawd way say it nuh nice fe call people so (doan aks) \o/

But wen mi come ah farrin an buck a Jamaican white, Indian, Chinese or Black person - dem refer to demself as yawdy...

no one from africa can 'fawt pan mi' if i say i am african any more than a person from india can fawt pan super cat for saying he's the 'wild indian' -- even though he is also jamaican-born;

even so-called 'white' people remember their european ancestry..they will tell you oh i'm irish...oh i'm italian...oh i'm swedish;

Living in an expat country I learned not to assume anything.
If they people want to share their (often mixup mixup) heritage they will do so on their own.
None a mi business really.

What's fascinating is the outlook of the children of expats that grew up in a 3rd country.
They look at the world as an open book and they're comfortable between all the pages.
