Re: Gulf Oil Slick Now the Size of Jamaica
biodegradation is a 30-or-more years process, there's STILL valdez oil that they have not been able to completely clean up since that event happened...
meanwhile, in the immediate timeframe, if it actually reaches land it will will soak into the land and poison eryting it touches -- plants, animals & seafood (destroying both the local food supply as well as the local economy - seafood businesses all up and dung the gulf coast - which in turn will affect the economy of the entire country), as well as poison the floodplain (therefore the water supply) anywhere it goes.
interesting side note - ascording to AC 360 last nite, when this first occurred, the Fed Govt/FEMA personell were there immediately & ready to go, and BP Company advised them to leave, they were not needed cause it was 'only a small leak' and they 'had it under control'
Now has come out that a simple inexpensive piece of 'auto shutdown' equipment used in ALL other countries of the world, is not used in the USA, as a result of the oil company lobbyists, who successfully got it excluded from regulation equipment.
so BP is fully at fault although they of course tryna weasel outta it and blame everybody else.
