You have a point. I'm in no kind of position because I am divorced myself.

I think one of the major things that has changed is that couples don't need each other as much as they used to. In the past people had more specific roles that they fulfilled like one might bring home the bacon and the next one would cook up the bacon.

When I look at my parents (who both worked) and even my grandparents, it appears that everyone didn't need to be superman or superwoman. Now that everyone is turning into such a self-sufficient unit, there is less reason to stick with a union because folks just don't need the teamwork.

A lot of marriages I see that have lasted now (not all of course) do appear to have one thing in common. Neither person could seem to make it own their own.

that is an interesting perspective that you have tulip.
when i got pregnant and now that i've had my son, the &quot;so when are you getting married&quot; talk has reared it's head.
what i think that a lot of people don't get is that commitment (ie: that daily work that you do even when you don't want to) is the marriage and not the paper. so many people think that the paper is what gets a couple the commitment and that is so far from the truth. so many people think that without the paper then a having a commitment is just to far of an expectation.

i just wish more people understood that a commitment is the daily work (the actions that you do for/in honor of the other person) even when you don't want to or you feel that the person is not deserving at the moment.

i am just glad that the person that i am with wants me. he allows me to just be. trust, me just being me...ain't pretty atall sometimes, but he's still here. i am still here.

could we walk away from each other? absolutely, but then that &quot;c-word&quot; gets in the way....and we plug away/work at it.
