Do ya know how many times in the past, that I have been asked by school personnel, 'Where's your son from?' Doesn't even have to open his mouth, and I'd get asked that...

He's Canadian born. Doesn't speak with a Jamaican accent ... no outward indicator to suggest he's not from here... oh wait... I guess his colour is the marker...

I called someone on it once, asked them how many of the other parents were asked the same thing... karanapo.

I am aware of that too, a good friend who has been deceased for quite a while experienced the same problem. His infant son came down with whatever was the cause of his illness and was admitted to one of the Toronto hospitals. He was taken aback when he was asked &quot;where was his kid born&quot;? He had to verify to them that he was Canadian.

He was very upset and said it wouldn't have mattered much if they had asked if he was Canadian, and as he said, it never occured to &quot;that person&quot; that the child could have been born in Canada. That was a long time ago, so hopefully things have changed or is changing for the better...
