ANOTHER intelligence-based raid led by the Contraband Enforcement Team (CET) of the Jamaica Customs Department late yesterday resulted in the seizure of eight cases of illegal assorted cigarettes (including a quantity of counterfeit Craven A brand) and a large quantity of bleaching creams, valued at $3 million.
The contraband was found at 38 Begonia Drive, Mona, St Andrew, where Jing He, owner of Jing’s Wholesale at 1-2 Half-Way-Tree Mall, was presented with a search warrant by officers of the CET.
He was arrested and charged for Breaches of the Customs and Intellectual Property acts.
The search of He’s house followed a search of his wholesale earlier in the day.
This is the third seizure of illegal/counterfeit cigarettes within three weeks.
“The Customs Department with collaborative support from the Jamaica Constabulary Force is adamant to combat this illicit trade and will not stop until those participating in the trade as well as shop owners are exposed and cease the undermining of the much needed Government revenue,” he department said in a news release.
