Strong 6.0-magnitude earthquake strikes eastern Indonesia

JAKARTA (WIREUPDATE.COM) — A strong earthquake rocked Indonesia’s Sulawesi Island on early Sunday, seismologists said. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The 6.0-magnitude earthquake at 7.33 a.m. local time was centered about 118 kilometers (73 miles) south-southwest of Manado, close to the Minahassa Peninsula of Sulawesi Island, which stretches north from the central part of the island, before turning to the east and forming the northern boundary of the Gulf of Tomini. It struck about 130 kilometers (80.8 miles) deep, according to the country’s seismological agency.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, and no tsunami warnings were issued.
Indonesia is often rocked by strong earthquakes as it is located in the ‘Pacific Ring of Fire.’
