Can't answer those questions blu, but my comment (just to clarify in case misunderstood)... was that this tragedy was a shame, and more so since it was a result of an attempt to capture the one responsible for another tragedy (that of the murder of the 15 year old).

i think the term 'pigs' was coined for all cops--not just 'white' cops &amp; has become slang for police...and since it was coined specifically for police officers, it can not be compared to the term 'ni66er' </div></div>

Detroit police who burnt and shot 7-year-old Aiyana Jones will face law suit victim's father filed

The father of the child who was burnt and then shot by officers during a raid on his family's home will file a law suit.


Aiyana Jones, 7, was severely burned by the flash bomb which Detroit officers threw into the family's living room where the child was sleeping on a sofa with her grandmother.


Aiyana Jones, after being burnt by the device that exploded was then shot in the head.


The father of Aiyana Jones has been saying all along that the accounts of the officers were absurd as to what transpired that killed his daughter.


Now he has seen the video recorded of the incident; and he is able to prove that his daughter's death was a police homicide.


Law Enforcement does not know how Aiyana's father saw the recording.


The death of Aiyana Jones was filmed by a camera crew shooting for a television show.


To the family of Aiyana Jones, many of us feel some of your pain; and some part of us regrets knowing we’ll never know how much you have been hurt.


If hurt could be shared that way, there’d be something we could do.


Something beside these words. Beside our thoughts - that quilt together from all distances - being sent upward to silently comfort your daughter.


I am part of a group who is hoping your family finds strength; and comfort that is one day soothing, like the unmistakable visit of her spirit’s smile.


For the apologies too unreal to be hearing; and for all the apologies that will never do a bit of good, I am sorry.


To law enforcement agencies that employ the use of distractionary devices like those that killed Aiyana Jones and that almost killed my dad years ago; I hope your tactical policies are a weapon Congress will soon review.


Police threw one of these flash bombs onto my parent’s bed while they were sleeping. I was twelve.
The same officers had been in our home a week prior. They’d seen my parent’s bed. I knew they’d seen it because one of them had pressed the barrel of his gun against my forehead while I was sitting on that bed.


The second raid came the following week. It was when the flash bomb was thrown onto my parent’s bed. It was kicked off the bed by my dad as he was rolling over in his sleep. Rolling over in a sleepy response to the shattered window glass that the bomb made sure none of us had time to realize we’d heard before being made deaf by the explosion less than an instant later.


The police brought a coroner's wagon with them to the raid on my home. It was parked in the parking lot when we were led out to their police cars.


In the case of this grieving family’s Aiyana, the Detroit Special Task Team brought with them a film crew. The crew was filming an episode of “The First 48 Hours.”


For anyone unfamiliar with this TV show, The First 48 Hours is a police show in which viewers get to follow the onset of a criminal case and see how the first two days of investigation tend to be part and parcel of what makes or breaks the ability of a case to get solved. It is ironically depressing that in viewing the only episode of The First 48 Hours I've seen… well I had assumed that what I'd viewed was the reconstruction of a crime.

Since learning about the killing of Aiyana, I realize I must have been sadly mistaken with this assumption.


Someone has the recording of the raid. This person allowed the attorney representing Aiyana’s family in two separate law suits to view the video of the deadly raid. The person did not allow their attorney, Mr. Geoffrey Fiegler, to have a copy.


No copy was given to anyone. And the person holding the tape is not announcing who he is.
Speaking today at a press conference, Attorney Fiegler, spoke to the video’s keeper saying, “You know who you are.”


Fiegler expressed his hope that the video would not be given to the Detroit Police, without a second copy being given to a party capable of guarding the truth should the recording suddenly be lost or otherwise muted.


Attorney Fiegler has clarified to the media that no police fired from within the home. The bullet came from outside, traveling through the opening made by the flash bomb.


Fiegler described the surveillance vehicle that residents living on Aiyana’s street had noticed parked the day before the midnight-hour-raid. The surveillance vehicle drove away minutes after the intended object of the raid was seen to enter the complex. It is assumed that the surveillance vehicle left so that a warrant to search could be obtained.


But the warrant was obtained to enter the wrong address.

The suspect lived at the same street number; but in the upstairs unit.

The downstairs unit included a lawn with toys strewn across. Four children, all small enough to still require being transported in a child’s safety car seat, were asleep in the unit downstairs.

According to the video which has been shared but not yet produced apparently, the police did not need to see the toys on the lawn belonging to the children they’d observed to have known for sure children were asleep inside.

The video clearly reveals that officers were told repeatedly, by the family member they encountered and cuffed, before the raid began.

Shortly after midnight this person they’d encountered had came out from inside Aiyana’s home. He had taken a pet for a final walk.

Police stood on the man’s back and neck as the team prepared to begin the raid. The man held on the ground told police over and over that there were kids in there. There are kids in there.

Police ignored the man and the bomb was thrown through a window that Aiyana and her grandmother were sleeping underneath.

Grandmother had her face to the wall and the back of the couch. Aiyana faced toward the room and front of the couch.
The bomb flew in and over their heads. It landed, exploded, and caught Aiyana’s blanket on fire. Her face was burned.
A bullet entered the home from outside. The bullet hit her in her head and neck.

Aiyana was shot as if some officer thought they’d ignited another pet dog. Did one of the officers think that they’d lit a pet dog on fire and the dog should quickly be shot?

Why Aiyana was not just burnt but shot, is for now painful speculation to have to make.

Aiyana’s grandmother told those present at the press conference that for hours her family was told by police that their little girl was in critical condition.

She was having her face worked on, they were told.

She said that no one can trust the police. Said it again. With heavy tears and pain-set expressions providing emphasis that somehow included pleas for help directed above.

Aiyana’s aunt spoke, saying that Aiyana was whisked away in a police car. An officer exclaimed, “Oh [censored]… and he ran out carrying Aiyana,” the aunt said.

Family members begged police to let Aiyana’s father stay with his daughter; but once she was quickly carried away no family member ever got close to her again.

Family members also wept telling how they were not allowed to check on the other three babies, who I know from experience, were very frightened.

It is easy to have mixed feelings about the individual who has possession of the video that holds the truth of what went down the night police threw a bomb that caught Aiyana’s blanket on fire before they shot and killed her.

Will this person still have a job working for the show, The First 48 Hours, once the tape is shared?

A more appropriate question may be, if this tape is not correctly shared, will this person be able to live within his own soul?

And why can’t the attorney just tell us who has the tape?
What could matter to any one, ANY ONE involved, save for the death of sweet, precious, Aiyana Jones?

When a flash bang is used against suspects sleeping in their homes; it might as well have been used against any one of us reading this now.

Family members should not be made casualties. Suspect apprehension should never be accomplished by the waging of such a jaded war.

When police lie to the population they serve, they relinquish their responsibility to advocate; and rob opportunity from members of generations to come.

Aiyana’s death may put an end to the explosive silence that’s been dealt to families pre judged to be second class – by uniformed officers with their own families and loved ones who can feel safe knowing – they won’t be put at risk as a result of anything an officer may have allegedly done.

That’s a risk cops reserve for those of us they’re sworn to protect and serve. A risk that Aiyana’s death has painfully exposed.

I hope that Aiyana's death gives a voice to the thousands of other kids (like me) who have been put at risk by family members who police would, if they could, sentence without ever giving a trial...
