Former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Minister of Health, Dr. Herbert Eldemire has died.
Dr. Eldemie died at his home in Reading, St. James, on Thursday morning after a brief illness.
He was 79 years old.
Members of his family including his daughter, Dr. Denise Eldemire-Shearer, were at his bedside.
Dr. Eldemire served as Minister of Health from 1962 to 1972 and was responsible for, among other things, the establishment of the Cornwall Regional Hospital, the School of Nursing and the introduction of the National Family Planning Programme.
He was again elected to Parliament for a third term from 1976 to 1980.

As a physician, he maintained a large private practice in Montego Bay for over 40 years.
