WESTERN BUREAU:
Investigators are to continue their interrogation today of the 20-year-old suspect who was held in connection with the murder of a hotel manager in Montego Bay, St James, yesterday.
The resort town has been rocked by the discovery of the mutilated body of 44-year-old Paul Gardner, who was the managing director at The Wexford Hotel on the Second City's Hip Strip.
"Paul was an integral part of our team, someone we could always depend on," said the hotel's chairman, Carlyle Allen, who described Gardner as a jovial person.
Allen said he would be greatly missed by both management and staff.
The Gleaner understands that police found Gardner's body lying in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor of an apartment - owned by The Wexford - in the Red Hills area, off Leader Avenue in Montego Bay. There were no signs of forced entry.
The suspect, who is of a Kingston address, reportedly led the lawmen to the premises. This was after personnel from the Falmouth Police Station stopped a motor car in which the suspect and another man were travelling in Greenwood at the St James/ Trelawny border.
The second man, who is being sought by investigators, ran from the vehicle, reportedly owned by Gardner - a son of the parish of St Elizabeth.
The police also extended their inquiries to a rented residence in the Greenwood area, where a further 12 men were escorted to the Montego Freeport Police Station. They were interviewed and had statements collected from them before being released by the police.
Attempts at getting a comment from his wife Racquel proved futile.
Gardener is also survived by three children - a daughter from a previous relationship and two sons from his marriage to Racquel.
