A female pedestrian was left stunned in Half-Way-Tree, St Andrew, after she was attacked by a knife-wielding robber yesterday morning.
Onlookers said the thief walked up behind the woman on Eastwood Park Road, in the vicinity of the St Andrew Parish Church, threatened her with the knife, and then made off with her handbag.
He then jumped over the church’s perimeter fence, and made his escape in the cemetery on the property.
The incident, which occurred about 10:00, not only shocked the female victim, but also several pedestrians who ran the opposite direction when they realised what was happening. The whole time the woman stood frightened.
According to onlookers, the criminal was dressed in a white marina and a pair of blue jeans pants.
The incident followed last week’s robbery of a female senior citizen on Half-Way-Tree Road, in the vicinity of the LIME building.
In that incident, the woman was standing at a bus stop when a hoodlum, armed with a ratchet knife, walked past her and grabbed her gold chain.
The brazen criminal then walked slowly pass about six other persons at the bus stop, opening and closing the weapon as the old woman screamed at him, onlookers said.
No one attempted to stop him.
It was not immediately clear whether or not either robberies were reported to the police.
Since the start of the year more than 100 robberies have been reported in the Corporate Area, according to police records. It was not immediately clear how many person were arrested for the offence.
