curious buttt...i was tawking wid di lady who was having a jewellery sale inside Costco...per usual she said she had been to Jamaica etc etc..she lives in Toronto...this is what she said to me..she said she had been to a Jcan party in Toronto n wat struck har was dat all the Jcans were fairskin...dere were chinese, etc etc but they were all fairskin ...all spoke wid Jcan accents butttttttt

Nutten funny bout dat. Toronto has a large contingent of fair complexion Jamaicans from the summer days I visited there and I guess they have cliqued up disassociating themselves from the majority west of Eglington, the darker shaded yardies or whatever they`re called nowadays.

i ran across one of those parties in my postsecondary years. surprised the heck out of me. cant remember now how i ended up there, must have been thru a light-skinned acquaintance.

dat if she neva did visit yaad she wudden did believe seh we ha dark shade Jcans....i explained to har dat wat she saw was as a result of the exodus during Manley's PMship...mi miself seh it pon yah dat di fairskin leff in droves...some did foul deeds like sell plots in housing developments dem neva was gwine to build an left wid di money...mi neva tell har dis pawt but i fi one have neva forgotten the names of those who did dat...one of these days i am going to do a search of those names to see how dem faired in Canada...like the poor people who lost dem life savings in Workers, dose people who were tricked bak den have neva had dem day in court cause dem was di poorer of the population

Jamaica is rife with colorism, to the point where bleaching creams are big sellers in most ghetto areas. Outright racism in Jamaica is almost nonexistent but almost everybody there suffers with colorism - Most Jamaicans will quickly let you know that some member of their family had/has brown skin or good hair.

I know what you mean, but a still think it is &quot;most&quot; and not just &quot;nuff&quot; easily 80-90%...

Think about how many Jamaican women you know who either relax, creme, striaghten, press, blow dry, and process dem hair?
How many use skin lightening rubbings, oil, lotions, potions, creme and make up(to appear lighter)?
How much man you hear sey dem want a &quot;brownin&quot;?
Or women with long or blond hair?
Colorism in Jamaican is like ackee and saltfish de national dish?
