Ok now maybe I am wrong.....because ADMITTEDLY , I turned them OFF and went on to bed, but there were some specials on last night like the fireworks in New York, and Dc, and I know Nick Cannon was hosting one.....but when they announced the "musical" lineups for the night, it was all this little bubble gum Justin EBiber boy and Lee Anne Rhymes and country western folks and [censored].....were there any "other's on these AMERICAN night shows, or is country western all the represents and celebrates AMerica....now like I said, I didn't watch them, so you give me the reviews.

Re: Mericka Mi Angry at you
Now I know the average moderator will just transfer this to Bashment and entertainment, but it is not really MUSIC I am asking about,,....it is a deeper social question as in WHO really sings America.....I notice these types of shows are usually highlighting on persussion and one persusaion only.

Re: Mericka Mi Angry at you
Marilyn,
The 4th of July is Independence Day and it is a day not given to deeper thought of what the United States is NOW but rather what it was when it was just freed from King George and British rule.
So all is sweet and nice and America is the shining city on the hill and people who can't handle the truth of what the United States has been the last hundred years get out and because all the evil that the United States now represents in the world is in and on their minds and they don't want to either believe it or hear it these "patriots" are even louder and more mindless in their celebration of what they would like America to be again.
Country music is the #1 format in the country. It is most popular in the jingoistic red states where people somehow still believe that the United States is about doing good in and for the world so that is what you see and hear on these "patriotic" holidays.
Likewise on Memorial Day and Veterans Day all you hear in the speeches is about the sacrifices our men and women give in "defending our freedoms" when the last time that happened was WWII and since then all their dying has been to save the privileges of the rich, the corporations.
That's the way it is.

I was listening to a Toronto talk radio call in show a couple years back and they were talking about country and western music. A Jamaican guy calls in and begins to share his input. The host of show ask him what his accent was and quickly dismissed him because he (the host) says that Jamaicans don't know anything about country and western music. The Jamaican guy tried to tell him that many Jamaicans listen to country and western music but he was just brushed off and they quickly moved onto the next caller.

Re: Mericka Mi Angry at you
What you talking about?
Jamaicans got influenced by the same old Radio Jamaica and Redifusion (RJR) .
Incidentally RJR like all other major organizations were foreign owned.
They were also foreign managed, foreign influenced , and staff tried This be as foreign as They could.
Remember in those days no Jamaican darker than a paper bag could work in those places unless They were acting as caricature.
Prior to 1970's only foreign music udt to br played on official radio programs.
Only programs sponsored by record distributors played local music.
They had to buy the time to play their music to get them heard.
So There were many programs That played country music.
As to the government owned JBC it was only a little different.
In That it employed a few darkies and played a few local programs That included local music.
They Did not have to go farm work to hear it.<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: blakkgiant</div><div class="ubbcode-body"><div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: jamaica_dreamin</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I do not care for C&W music. Re: Mericka Mi Angry at you
our Big city-sponsored "Welcome America" celebration/concert here in PHL was a double-bill, with <span style="font-style: italic">The Roots</span>, and <span style="font-style: italic">Goo Goo Dolls</span>. Additional performers were R&B singer Chrisette Michelle and Washington D.C.‘s Chuck Brown.
Miss Patti LaBelle usually makes an appearance too at these big city-of-phila productions since she's from here and they love to include her in everything (and i love that they do!)
- not sure if she was there this year for sure though....

Re: Mericka Mi Angry at you
just saw this on the news -- here's what happened onstage last nite in philly
Adorable!
<span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-style: italic">Reggie joins the Goo Goo Dolls!</span></span>
<span style="font-style: italic">July 5, 2010 (WPVI) --
During The Goo Goo Dolls performance at the Wawa Welcome America celebration on the Parkway, a little boy joined the band on stage - capturing the hearts of all in attendance.
Goo Goo Dolls front man Johnny Rzeznik helped the little boy on stage. The boy shook his hips, spun around and danced along with the band.
After stealing the spotlight through the song, Rzeznik asked the little boy his name, to which he replied "Reggie".
So what we would like to know is who is Reggie?
If you know Reggie, let us know. We would like to feature him on Action News. </span>
seet here including video
(i can't figure out how to embed the video cause it's from our local news station - not youtube or whatever)
