Well this new approach to preventing HIV/AIDS certainly sounds promising.

Unfortunately, the women in the study appear to have been employing some element of deception (were they required to do so ?) when using the gel. I'm wondering if this will prove to be a viable long term approach. Hoping that there is some plan to have the men buy into this as hiding the use of the gel is likely to entail its own set of problems for the women.

Buy into what? Now I know cultures have different issues, but are you seriously suggesting the men might have a problem with the women using an anti-HIV gel? What could the problem be? Honestly, if I was with a man who had a problem with me using it, I would feel an intense and unwavering need to get far away from him. He'd never catch so much as a whiff of this.

Why would you be so surprised at this ? Does not the fact that they had to hide the fact that they were using the gel an indication that there is a problem in the first place ?

Furthermore, the wearing of a condom would have prevented millions of women from being exposed to the virus. We are talking about men here who are <span style="font-style: italic">already</span> refusing to do something that would save their partner's lives.

u know weneva i think of this i wonder if the men r equally selfish in the sex act...do they care if the woman is appeased ...cause if u selfish wid har health it stands to reason u juss selfish period

n i wonder wen the cycle of women enabling men , juss to seh dem have a man will stop...

Even if I go along with the &quot;fact&quot; they they employed some element of deception and I'm not clear why I would after reading the article, should I be locked in thinking they had to? What part of this experiment specified they had to lie to their partners?

There is a huge difference between hiv repellent gel and condoms so that is not even an almost even comparison. Perhaps if the woman was sneaking about the place using spermicide to prevent getting pregnant then that would be more comparable.

Unless a body has AIDS and is getting a thrill from putting in their best effort to spread it, I can't see what could possibly be a problem.
