nat confusing at all the article says oil/gas is a very real possibility

We have suffered too long as a poor impoverished third world nation and our politicians will have to do right by the Jamaican people... I'm talking about mutual respect here. If the US wants to buy our oil, of course they will get it but our negotiators will make sure that it wont be given away... We will reserve the right to say who will be our developers and who will be our customers... Just my two cents!!

Chavez has been president since about 2001 (not sure) In that time he has changed the deals he had with the big oil companies so that Venezuela gets a bigger share. With that money he has cut the poverty rate in half in Venezuela. He has traded oil for doctors' and teachers' services for the poor in Venezuela with Cuba cutting the illiteracy rates and providing medical care for those who could not afford it before.
He has lent money to countries in Latin America so they don't have to business with the IMF which screws every poor country to whom they lend.
Chavez was in the lead in setting up ALBA as an alternative source to the United States for economic help in the region..

He is developing what he calls 21st century socialism.

Those are the kinds of things that a progressive government can do with its resources instead of lining the pockets of the people who are already rich.

That's why I say wait and see what happens in Jamaica.

There may or may not be exploitable oil under the sea but it all depends on who is running the country and who gets the money and what is done with it.

Wahalla seems to know a lot about the oil business worldwide. Perhaps you could ask him how oil money benefits the regular people of the world in the countries where there is lots of oil although he's not big into the societal benefits of oil money.

Grippsland petroleum no longer exists.. it was delisted and is now flow energy or flow petroleum... They dont have the money to drill deep water well.. runs in the order of 60-100 million us dollars.. I Grippsland was a australian company I beleive that Flow has Kanadian directors..

In order to do this well they have to do what is called a Farm-In where a rich uncle to finance for a % of the equity... this may be possible as the moritorium in the GOM makes rig available and no one with long term contracks want to let go their deep water rigs as they will head in a heartbeat to long term contracts in Brazil.... So drilling a well or three in Jamaica is worth a shottie..

by the way I made money out of Grippsland oil based on the Jamaica speculation a few years back...

I beleive that there may be commercial oil in Jamaica waters...

They did not find commercial oil they found seepages on the seabed but then every manjack who run to Key knows this.. The bedard healing stream was warmed by natural gas.. they identified structures on siesmic . Structures on seismic are lines on paper..It cannot tell that there is oil I would wager that the report reads in terms of probability.. What virtual oil companies do is spin this as if it was a discovery to enhance oil share prices... Fugro is the other equity parnter

go to the Petrojam websites and they found oil shows on a number of wells that were drilled.. oil shows are not uncommon isn dry wells. I do not beleive they ever production tested any well in Jamaica.. tehy may have done a drill stem test.. and I dont beleive th

There is not commercial oil in Jamaica at the moment.. Jamaica has signed a petroleum agreement associated with Petrocaribe that the PDVSA and PETROBRAS only pay 12% to the Jamaican goverment of any oil they found.. This is 1/2% less than what the what anglo-persian were paying in Iran...

If the US wanted oil they could simply claim the falkland islands based on the fact during guarno period they had a whaling station on there..The Falklands have proven 450 million bbl oil feild... With other interesting structures on seismic...that will be drilled in the near future...

Alphonse reported the findings from a 1979 geological study in Haiti of 11 exploratory oil wells drilled at the Plaine du Cul-de-sac on the Plateau Central and at L’ile de La Gonaive: “Surface (tentative) indicators for oil were found at the Southern peninsula and on the North coast, explained the engineer Anglade, who strongly believes in the immediate commercial viability of these explorations.”[10]
Journalist Alphonse cites an August 16, 1979 memo by Haitian attorney Francois Lamothe, in which he noted that “five big wells were drilled” down to depths of 9000 feet and that a sample that “underwent a physical-chemical analysis in Munich, Germany” had “revealed tracks of oil.” [11]

Cuban deep water "oil" is to the west at teh edge of the GOM... Jamaica over 1000 km from Jamaica...I beleive sitts on anotehr sedimetary basin... The geomechnist tell me that the sources are from another geological age and another mechanism of hydrocarbon formation.. But geologists make lawyers seem accurate... if the play is based on the Triassic river that GOM oil is based on then you have to factor in the up lift of cuba due to folding. I would surmise that the formation of interest is faulted... <span style="color: #FF0000">cuba has basins that could potentially hold 20 billion bbls is the accurate description...</span> Just like the 40 billion bbls in the Falkland of which only 300 million bbl revoerable is proven.

If you want a undrstanding of the concept look at Uganada.. Tullow and heritage found billions of bbl of oil on lake albert.. Whoppe.. I made money... On the same geological structure I beleive 50 km away closer to lake Edward, Dominion Petroleum found absolutely nothing. (I lost money!). seismic shows structures based on sound transmission deifentials but it does not show oil..

If the US wanted to claim oil they could claim the falkland islands as they have a stronger histroical claim than Argentiana... And they have more guns.. or better yet invade Kanada..

Which companies actually attended the Jamaica dog and pony show ? I was in london in March and I know at least one of the big 5 did not attend.. .. This means from deduction that none of them would as they hunt in packs...But ! (Exxon, BP, ENI, Shell,Chevron).. had I learnt of it a day earlier I would have attended... !

Actually this was a misspent of money! Had tehy wanted to get more bang for their buck.. They could have set up a stall at the rotating Annual European oil and Gas Show in Stavanger 2010 or Aberdeen2011 ...All the players will betehre..

And even them estimates as to amount can be wrong, what is important is that there is "potentially" commercial quantities of Oil in or off shore Jamaica. Based on the information so far Big money is already being laid out.

Again what matters is that at this point is that the research indicates potentially commercial quantities.

I am surprised..what i found.... about Jamaica oil...

Three companies have blocks opertorship.. Rainsville, Proteam, Finder,

Jamaica paid got alot of money from the data room packs..

Finder has not got any production.. they made money by selling a potential to woodside and hess...off the convonon basin.. Near the gorgon, goodwyn, rankin platforms.... They are small time.. they walked out of a serious prospect that theyt could not develop.. good strategy.. they are doing wnat I suspect seeking farm in players

There are hundreds of theories but only one that all oil companies operate on.. microplanton cooked in shale and up lifted into a permeable formation either limestone or sandstone and helt in place by a impereable rock.. The amount of oil is not rocket science it is a volumentiric claculation based on the feild size, thickness, porosity and permeaility of the rock.. basically the size of the holes in rock..... There was a tehroy that the earth generated oil out the mantel but that was disproven despite the paper in nature.. They excitedly announced that they had oil shows in the basement rock then a friend of mine pointed out that they were drilling with diesel that florcence under UV light...

Yes UK owns the Falklands but the US claims to the Falkland islands is as valid as Argentina..And they have a commercial feild in place [censored] per the drill bit..
