Re: Good Bye US Middle Class
jamaica_dreamin,
If you've read my posts on a regular basis, you'd know that I am in favor of democratic socialism and that there is only a very small percentage of both posters at Jamaicans.com and the U.S public as a whole who have a favorable opinion of socialism.
As you have experienced, they also were raised in a country where anti-socialism is taught from a very early age.

What pisses you off about the banks and people buying up houses at bargain prices is due to the fact that it's all part of capitalism.
Were this a socialist country, houses would be sold or assigned on the basis of need and the amount of money you have would not be a factor.
Neither would anyone be allowed to own more than a couple of houses if that meant someone else would be homeless.
It is just luck that has given you a good landlord. When it comes to money and if you didn't pay the rent, as good a man as he may be he would have to evict you..
The difference is also easily pointed out by how I sign off.

In a socialist economy, the needs of the people are what is the top priority.
In the United States, in capitalism making piles of money is the top priority.
That's the important thing to remember.
All the rest is detail.
