ILP – Wan girl a work live in Bowie an shi sey fi har out fi days to an she use BGE and a dem mi use to. She sey di same ting mi was saying…That they have been so good in all these years to get back your power up that there was no need for me to even consider getting a generator. This is the LONGEST dem eva down. Usually it tek dem bout 6 hrs max to get yuh back up.

3 days? That's some bad news there.

Only after a hurricane have I had to go so long. Start cleaning out the fridge and freezer now. It's much easier if it doesn't stink yet.

I guess this is not a common occurrence, but if it is then definitely get a generator. Even with a generator (in my experience), you have to make decisions about exactly what you're going to hook up to it, but it better than nothing.

Our power was off for maybe six hours on Sunday evening. I hauled out the keresene lamps, cranked up the radio, and listened to WTOP news/weather station. A friend from Ja. called me on my land line and was dedding wid laff aawfah wi predikament a farrin . Mi have some bad-mine fren yuhsi

I also iPhoned my way to ja.com to check on ILP's up to date commentary on all weather-related phenomena in our area

Seriously, it felt like a tornado when the storm started From my dining room window, I looked up at my backyard neigbors' 100' tulip poplars with fear an trepidation . Should they fall, they would directly aim at my likkle house an split it in two. We have so many mature trees in our part of the mid-Atlantic states that whenever a storm passes through it is the trees that are likely to cause death and destruction. This Sunday alone, downed trees killed three people in the Washington, DC area.

Well, when power goes out, the power company has to assess what has taken the power out. In the case of Sunday's storm, wind caused trees to snap and land on the power lines. In order to fix them....

Crew has to survey area ahn determine that the tree is the culprit of said power loss.
Then another crew has to remove tree (chop it up and take it away)
Then repair crew has to look at equipment on the pole/line see what is damaged. Then they either repair it or replace it.

Now during the winter...no one is on vacation. Power companies are usually fully staffed and getting together full crews are usually not an issue. Or calling crews from states that deal (properly) with snow are on call and ready to go.

Unfortunately, it is the summer. Vacation has impeded the amount of staff that is available (in our area) and calling for help from states nearby with more equipment has been difficult, also.

Also, power companies usally respond to areas where generators are running, first because (ahn mi naw mek up dis...a currant smaddy tell wi dis..ahem..sorry) &quot;Those customers are using alternative methods to run the generators, which run the risks of other issues like fire and CO poisoning. So we try to get those clusters of customers back on the grid.&quot;

Everyone on dis side have generators. While wi never lose power, the people around us that did..were back yesterday early, early morning and they were the longest/last customers. Most were back Sunday. I thought the very idea of having a generator when wi moved here was ridiculous, but it took di fuss incident (ahn it wasn't even winter) fi mek wi go right ah Home Depot ahn invest in one.

Nuff generators were on wen powah went out on Sunday and pere nize in wi likkle neighborhood . We are PEPCO area and big hospital in neighborhood so currant came back in no time Up to yesterday, major intersection with worse traffic accidents in county had no power for traffic lights. The police officers conducting traffic were hot and sweaty <span style="text-decoration: line-through">and gorgeous </span> so the inconvenience of modern life continues.

My Daughter’s school out tidey ..Tenk Gad mi Aunty a Teacha an out of school soh mi lef hard dere…chances are a deysoh wi mite affi sleep again fi day 4 \o/
