Like a wildfire, tales have spread in Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine, about a mysterious stone which residents claim fell from the sky on Tuesday morning.
The stone is said to have fallen close to a man who was walking in an open field in the community.
Since its arrival, residents have been fascinated by the stone and a few of them have expressed fear about what could have happened if they touched it.
Howard Pennant, the person who found the stone, told THE STAR that he was walking in the field about 8 a.m. when he saw the stone falling from the sky.
"Mi did a walk inna di open lot when mi see dis thing coming towards mi. It den pass mi an drop behind mi," he said.
Pennant said being curious, he went to the spot where the stone fell and picked it up.
"When mi pick up di stone, it hot like fire! Mi affi drop it," the man said.
He said he waited for a few minutes and took up the stone again which he showed to his friends and family members.
Despite some persons labelling the rock as 'duppy stone' and others expressing fear that touching it could cause issues with the skin, some residents have described it as the most beautiful mineral they have ever seen. They claim it has various colours including brown, black and white and also has striped patterns.
Since the incident the residents claim that they have sent the stone to a university for it to be tested. THE STAR was unable to confirm this with the university officials.
