HYANNIS — Trudie Hall was not only pregnant at the time of her disappearance a week ago, she was married, according to the police and other official sources.
Police sources have also confirmed that bullet casings were found in the rented Toyota Avalon investigators searched in connection with the Nantucket woman's disappearance and that they have identified and questioned a person of interest in the case.
Hall, 23, came to Cape Cod from her home on Nantucket July 27, according to her family. Sources confirmed yesterday that she stayed with her husband at the Bayside Resort on Route 28 in West Yarmouth after arriving on the Cape prior to her mother reporting her missing on July 28.
Her husband's name was not available yesterday from official sources.
The police seized the rental car Friday and searched areas of Hyannis and West Barnstable, including the commuter lot at Exit 6 off Route 6. Law enforcement sources have told the Times that investigators believe Hall is dead.
Despite the mounting evidence, investigators are officially still treating Hall's disappearance as a missing person case. There has been no official release of photographs or descriptions that might help members of the public to recognize Hall.
There was no new information available on the case yesterday, Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe said.
"Any number of police agencies are working on the case," he said.
Reached yesterday by telephone, Hall's mother, Vivienne Walker, said she did not think her daughter was married.
"I don't know anything about that," she said. "I don't think so."
Walker also said that her daughter came to the United States from Jamaica at a young age and is a U.S. citizen.
Walker has described her daughter as intelligent and talented, saying in an interview earlier this week that she still hopes investigators will find her alive. Her daughter would not run away, she told the Times on Monday. She believes Hall's friends know something about her disappearance.
Despite what she described as a close relationship with her daughter, Walker said she did not know the identity of the father of Hall's unborn child.
The Yarmouth Police Department is assisting Barnstable police and state police in the investigation, Yarmouth police Lt. Steven Xiarhos said yesterday. The Yarmouth police are involved in the probe because Hall stayed at a hotel in the town before her disappearance, Xiarhos said, adding there have been no searches in Yarmouth. He declined to comment further on the case.
