They cud have done that..If it was a democracy...have we forgotten that in so called democracies they ordinary joe's are told who they can and cannot vote for.......If I recall correctly Aristede was living in Yankee land before running for president....

Haiti postpones decision as Wyclef goes into hiding...

Haiti's electoral commission is postponing a ruling that will decide if Wyclef Jean and others can run for president there in November.

A decision is expected on Friday. Right now, Wyclef's residency requirement for eligibility is uncertain. Law states you must have lived in Haiti for the last five years to run for office. Jean said he was appointed a roving ambassador for Haiti in 2007 and that means he is eligible.

Meanwhile, Jean said he is in hiding right now due to death threats. Wyclef said he received phone calls telling him to get out of Haiti or else.

&quot;We await the CEP decision but the laws of the Haitian Constitution must be respected,&quot; he said. &quot;Hope!&quot;

The postponement was met with protests throughout Port-au-Prince.

Right now, over 30 people are expected to run for president in November.
